Psychiatrist – Migration Field (On‑Call)

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) seeks a qualified psychiatrist to join its Migration and Health portfolio. The role involves delivering psychiatric assessments, crisis interventions and ongoing mental‑health support to migrants and refugees, working within a multidisciplinary team to ensure culturally sensitive care.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct psychiatric assessments and screenings for arriving migrants, documenting conditions and arranging follow‑up care.
• Provide immediate crisis intervention, risk assessment and therapeutic stabilization for individuals in acute distress.
• Deliver individual and group therapy addressing trauma, anxiety, depression and adjustment difficulties, and offer psycho‑educational coping strategies.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers, social workers and interpreters to develop individualized, culturally appropriate care plans.
• Train and mentor staff on recognizing and managing common mental‑health issues among migrant populations.
• Maintain accurate medical records, produce regular activity reports and ensure compliance with IOM reporting requirements.
• Participate in on‑call rotations to respond to mental‑health emergencies outside regular hours.
• Undertake any additional duties assigned by the Mission’s Migration and Health Physician.

Required profile

• Medical degree with specialization in Psychiatry and a valid license to practice.
• Experience in migration health, refugee mental health or similar settings is preferred.
• Knowledge of trauma‑informed care, cultural psychiatry and cross‑cultural communication.
• Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic and treatment‑planning abilities.
• Ability to work in fast‑paced, high‑pressure environments with resilience.
• Fluency in English and French (oral and written); working knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.
