Legal Counsel – Algeria

About the role

The Legal Counsel will support Oxy's Algeria business unit on all legal matters. Reporting to the Managing Counsel, you will draft, negotiate and advise on a wide range of contracts and provide legal guidance to multiple internal departments.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, negotiate and review exploration, development, production sharing, joint‑venture, operating, drilling, master services, purchase, service, lifting, marketing, sales, unitization, joint‑facility and confidentiality agreements.
• Provide legal advice to procurement, technical, HR, finance, tax, IT, compliance and risk management teams.
• Participate in meetings and negotiations with SONATRACH, ALNAFT, ARH, international oil‑and‑gas companies and contractors, communicating in French, English and Arabic.
• Develop and review policies, standards, procedures and guidelines for the Algeria unit in all three languages.
• Monitor new Algerian legislation, coordinate with external counsel, and keep the Managing Counsel and business unit informed.
• Support claims, disputes, mediations, litigation and arbitration, including liaising with outside counsel and attending court proceedings.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of experience handling international oil‑and‑gas legal matters, preferably at a top‑tier law firm or multinational energy company.
• At least four years of experience in a top‑tier law firm is desired.
• Demonstrated ability to work across multiple jurisdictions and languages.
