Commis (Kitchen Assistant)

About the role

The Commis supports the culinary team in delivering high‑quality meals at Marriott International’s Algiers location. You will work in a fast‑paced kitchen, preparing special dishes, managing inventory, and ensuring food safety standards are met.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare special meals and substitute items according to recipes and presentation standards.
• Regulate oven, broiler, grill and roaster temperatures and monitor cooking processes.
• Pull frozen items for thawing, maintain food logs, and ensure proper portioning and garnish.
• Communicate menu specials, out‑of‑stock items, and excess food to chefs and service staff.
• Assist with hiring, training, scheduling, and performance coaching of kitchen staff.
• Follow all safety, security, and sanitation policies; report hazards and incidents.
• Maintain a clean, professional appearance and protect confidential company information.

Required profile

• Technical or vocational culinary education.
• At least 3 years of relevant kitchen experience.
• No supervisory experience required.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift up to 25 lb and perform repetitive motions.

Required skills

• Food preparation and cooking techniques.
• Knowledge of temperature control for ovens, grills, and roasters.
• Inventory management and food safety documentation.
