Programme Associate - Social and Behaviour Change

About the role

The Programme Associate will support the implementation of community‑based early childhood development, nurturing care and positive parenting interventions across the five Sahrawi refugee camps in Algeria. Working closely with community health workers, peer facilitators and implementing partners, the role focuses on behaviour change activities that promote responsive caregiving, nutrition and health for children from conception to six years.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate parenting groups, caregiver learning sessions, community dialogues and home‑based activities targeting early childhood development.
• Promote responsive caregiving, early stimulation, learning through play and positive parenting through outreach and behaviour change campaigns.
• Adapt, test and disseminate counselling materials, communication tools and practical resources for caregivers and frontline workers.
• Support SBC activities on maternal nutrition, breastfeeding, complementary feeding and healthy family practices.
• Assist in training, mentoring and supervising community health workers, peer educators and partners.
• Conduct field monitoring, collect programme data, support KAP assessments and document lessons learned and success stories.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Communication for Development, Psychology, Social and Behaviour Change, Sociology, Public Health, Nutrition, Community Development or a related field.
• 1–2 years of relevant professional, internship or volunteer experience in early childhood development, parenting, community engagement, SBC or health promotion.
• Good understanding of nurturing care, positive parenting and early childhood development principles, as well as maternal and child nutrition.
• Commitment to gender equality, disability inclusion, child safeguarding and ethical community engagement.
• Fluency in French and Arabic; working knowledge of English is an asset.
