Remote OPI/VRI Medical Interpreter (English/French)

About the role

We are looking for a remote OPI/VRI Medical Interpreter to facilitate clear communication between English‑speaking healthcare professionals and French‑speaking patients. The interpreter will work full‑time, providing over‑the‑phone and video‑remote interpreting services in a variety of clinical contexts.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver accurate, impartial interpretation (simultaneous or consecutive) between English and French during medical consultations, follow‑up calls and administrative discussions.
• Apply medical terminology correctly in both languages and produce short written translations when required.
• Maintain confidentiality, adhere to patient‑privacy regulations and follow organizational interpreting guidelines.
• Document each session as needed and coordinate with the language services team to ensure quality support.

Required profile

• Native or near‑native proficiency in French and excellent command of English.
• Proven experience as a medical or community interpreter, preferably in OPI/VRI or telehealth settings.
• Familiarity with medical terminology, confidentiality standards and professional codes of ethics.
• Relevant certification or training in medical or professional interpreting; a degree in languages or translation is a plus.
• Reliable high‑speed internet connection and appropriate audio/video equipment for remote work.
