Senior Backend Engineer

About the role

We’re hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to build and own the backend layer that powers Broco’s operations, including APIs, admin tooling, partner integrations, KYC flows, notifications, and internal systems used by ops, compliance, and country teams. The role reports to the Head of Engineering and is based in Algiers.

Key responsibilities

• Build, scale, and maintain robust backend services and APIs powering the Broco Consumer, Transporter, and Agent applications.
• Collaborate with the Lead Payments Engineer to implement secure financial features, ledger operations, and real‑time commission splits.
• Integrate third‑party services such as local banking APIs, SMS gateways, and geolocation/routing services.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well‑tested code while participating in code reviews.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and optimise database queries and application performance for low latency and high availability.
• Define API contracts with product and mobile teams to ensure seamless feature integration.

Required profile

• 5+ years of proven experience as a Backend Engineer in a fast‑paced tech environment.
• Strong hands‑on experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL), complex schema design and query optimisation.
• Demonstrated ability to build production‑grade backend systems used by real customers.
• Professional proficiency in English; French or Arabic is a strong asset.
