Backend Engineer (Independent Contractor)

About the role

We are looking for a Backend Engineer to design, build, and scale the core infrastructure that powers our fintech platform. As an independent contractor, you will work closely with the CTO and the engineering team to deliver reliable, secure, and compliant services to thousands of users across multiple jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and own critical backend subsystems, including service architecture, reliability, and build/release pipelines.
• Integrate compliance and banking services while maintaining high security standards.
• Identify and remediate weak points in code and infrastructure to improve system health.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and operations teams to ship features for multiple markets.
• Contribute to engineering best practices, code quality, and process improvements as the organization scales.

Required profile

• Strong engineering fundamentals with knowledge of clean architecture and layered abstractions.
• Broad understanding of backend architecture, databases, site reliability, and infrastructure as code.
• Security‑focused mindset for building financial systems that meet compliance requirements.
• Ability to make technical decisions informed by product and business context.
• Experience working independently in fast‑moving environments, preferably in startups, fintech, or regulated sectors.

Required skills

• Proficiency with backend programming languages and frameworks suitable for scalable financial systems.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure‑as‑code tools.
• Knowledge of database design and management.
