EHS Officer

About the role

Siemens Energy is looking for a full-time EHS Officer in Algeria. The role coordinates, implements, monitors and continuously improves Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) programmes across Siemens Energy operations and project sites, ensuring compliance with local legislation, Siemens Energy standards, customer requirements and the global Zero Harm objectives. It works closely with project managers, site supervisors, employees, contractors and customers.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain EHS management systems in line with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001, and ensure compliance with Algerian occupational health, safety and environmental legislation
• Monitor projects and operations, carry out site inspections and audits, identify hazards and risks, and implement corrective and preventive actions
• Facilitate risk assessments, job hazard analyses and safe systems of work; monitor high-risk activities such as working at height, confined spaces and electrical work
• Help develop site-specific EHS and emergency response plans, and report, investigate and analyse incidents and near misses
• Manage contractor compliance, qualifications and inductions, and deliver toolbox talks and safety inductions
• Coordinate emergency preparedness, fire drills and liaison with emergency services
• Monitor environmental aspects, waste management and pollution prevention, and prepare weekly and monthly EHS performance reports
• Coach supervisors and employees, run competency assessments and mentor site teams

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering or a related field
• Professional EHS certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH or SAMTRAC preferred
• 3-5 years of EHS management experience in industrial, energy, construction or power generation environments
• Experience with contractors and customer construction sites, incident investigations, risk assessments and EHS audits

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001
• Hazard identification and risk assessment (HIRA), incident investigation and root cause analysis (RCA)
• Permit-to-work systems and management of high-risk activities
