About the role

The Head of English & School Education leads the English and School Education (ESE) portfolio for the British Council in Algeria. This senior position provides technical expertise, drives business development, and ensures high‑quality delivery of programmes that improve English teaching, learning and assessment across the country.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the ESE portfolio of contracts and programmes, ensuring compliance and quality standards.
• Develop and implement business development strategies to expand English education initiatives.
• Collaborate with government, NGOs and other partners to strengthen basic education systems.
• Share best practices and lessons learned with global ESE teams and external stakeholders.
• Monitor programme outcomes, produce reports and recommend improvements.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (or higher) in Education, Linguistics, or a related field.
• 6‑10 years or more of experience in English language education, curriculum development or programme management.
• Proven experience leading large‑scale education projects in a multicultural environment.
• Strong understanding of language policy, foundational learning and digital education tools.

Required skills

• Strategic planning and programme management.
• Stakeholder engagement and partnership building.
• Monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
• Fluency in English; working knowledge of French is an advantage.
