Legal Associate

About the role

BAT is expanding its operations in Algeria and seeks a Legal Associate to support its commercial, regulatory and corporate activities. The successful candidate will work closely with management and various business units to ensure legal compliance and mitigate risk.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on commercial, regulatory, labor and corporate matters.
• Ensure compliance with Algerian tobacco regulations, advertising restrictions, taxation, customs and employment law.
• Draft, review and negotiate contracts with suppliers, distributors, service providers and partners.
• Manage litigation files and coordinate with external law firms.
• Monitor legal and regulatory developments affecting the tobacco industry.
• Advise marketing and brand teams on compliance with local legislation.
• Support corporate governance, company secretarial duties and internal compliance training.
• Maintain relationships with government authorities and regulators.
• Identify and mitigate legal and business risks, and support investigations and audits.

Required profile

• Minimum 3‑5 years of professional experience in corporate, commercial, regulatory or labor law.
• Experience in a multinational environment, preferably in a highly regulated sector such as tobacco, FMCG, pharmaceutical, energy or telecommunications.
• Strong knowledge of Algerian legal and regulatory framework.
• Ability to work independently, manage priorities and maintain confidentiality.
