About the role
Baker Hughes is seeking an experienced Rotor Shop Machinist to join its IET team. You will work in a high‑precision environment, machining and refurbishing heavy‑tonnage rotors for gas, steam and centrifugal turbines.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain safety as a top priority and follow all safety rules and procedures.
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, manuals and specifications to determine dimensions, tolerances and setup requirements.
- Calculate and set machining parameters such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth and angle of cut.
- Start, monitor and adjust machine operations to correct malfunctions or out‑of‑tolerance conditions.
- Select, align and secure fixtures, cutting tools, attachments and materials on manual lathes, mills and grinders.
- Operate overhead crane to move heavy equipment safely.
- Complete digital inspection forms for manufactured parts.
- Collaborate with peers, supervisors and internal/external customers.
Required profile
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 10+ years of experience machining heavy‑tonnage parts (0.1‑40 tons).
- Proven experience in cylindrical grinding and refurbishment of high‑tonnage rotors.
- Advanced skill on manual lathe, mill and grinder (aligning, runouts, turning, grinding).
- Ability to accurately use measuring instruments.
- Certification for critical lifting (0.1‑40 tons).
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and work instructions.
- Experience with gas turbine repair is a plus.
- Knowledge of machine safety standards and ability to work with minimal supervision.
