Summer Day Camp Counselor – Summer Learning Academy

About the role

Join the Summer Learning Academy as a Day Camp Counselor and guide a group of children through a fun, educational, and safe summer experience. You will lead activities that blend learning with play, explore the local community, and support sports and swimming sessions.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure personal safety and emotional well‑being of campers at all times.
• Model YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
• Plan and deliver recreational and educational programs that encourage group participation and choice.
• Use positive discipline and reinforcement, and ensure staff follow the same approach.
• Maintain accurate daily attendance and report any accidents or incidents promptly.
• Assist pool staff with swim instruction and support lifeguards during free swim periods.
• Participate in all camp operations, including openings, closings, and extended hours.
• Attend staff meetings, trainings, and keep program areas and supplies well‑maintained.

Required profile

• At least 16 years old with a genuine passion for working with children.
• Previous experience in youth programs, camp settings, or related fields.
• Physical ability to lead activities, assist in swimming sessions, and handle the demands of a day‑camp environment.
• Ability to establish appropriate boundaries and develop positive relationships with campers.

Required skills

• Positive role‑modeling and effective communication with children, parents, and staff.
• Ability to follow safety protocols and YMCA policies.
