Young Learners' Assistant (Auto-Entrepreneur)

About the role

The British Council is the UK's international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities, operating in more than 100 countries. At its teaching centre in Algiers, it runs English language courses for primary and secondary Young Learners. It is looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant to support children's learning alongside the class teacher. The role is advertised to individuals registered as Auto-entrepreneur with the Algerian ANAE.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise, monitor and motivate learners during lessons, and supervise students during breaks until the class teacher returns
• Help create a safe, inclusive and supportive classroom environment and promote positive student behaviour
• Assist with classroom setup and preparation, and provide translation support where needed
• Support the flow of students and parents, respond to enquiries and pass on customer feedback to teachers or Customer Services
• Work with the Teaching Centre Operations Coordinator or Officer and help plan events such as Open Days
• Contribute to local marketing and promotional activities, and take part in training and briefing sessions

Required profile

• Registered as an Auto-entrepreneur with the Algerian ANAE (registration alone does not guarantee selection)
• Baccalaureate certificate
• Natural right to work in Algeria on a permanent basis; relocation support is not provided
• Experience working with young learners is desirable
• Compulsory training is provided on Safeguarding & Child Protection, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion and Health & Safety

Required skills

• Clear communication in French, Arabic and English
• Teamwork and good communication skills

What we offer

• Hourly rate of 300 DZD
• Service hours depending on operational needs, under a 6-month renewable service agreement
