Cardiothoracic Surgery PA-C – First Assist & Vein Harvesting

About the role

The Physician Assistant – Cardiothoracic Surgery provides advanced patient care in a high‑acuity heart and lung surgery environment. Working closely with surgeons and the multidisciplinary team, the PA‑C acts as a first assist during procedures and supports patients from pre‑operative evaluation through discharge.

Key responsibilities

• Assist surgeons during cardiothoracic operations, including first‑assist and vein‑harvesting techniques.
• Provide acute care for patients with heart attacks, respiratory distress, shock, and other critical conditions.
• Conduct history and physical examinations, order and interpret diagnostic studies, and prescribe medications.
• Participate in discharge planning, patient education, and post‑operative follow‑up.
• Mentor and coach staff, contribute to research projects, and support quality‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Current PA‑C certification and licensure in Arizona.
• Experience in critical care or surgical assistance, preferably in cardiothoracic settings.
• Ability to work independently with a high degree of autonomy.
• Strong clinical judgment, evidence‑based practice orientation, and commitment to patient safety.
