Head of Software Engineering

About the role

Broco is building a new financial layer for francophone Africa, connecting merchants, drivers and consumers through three mobile apps. As Head of Software Engineering you will lead the technical function across Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia and a growing remote presence in MENA, reporting directly to the CEO.

Key responsibilities

• Build and scale Broco’s engineering organization from a founding team to 20‑35 engineers within 24 months.
• Own the core financial systems: double‑entry ledger, real‑time reconciliation engine, idempotent payment flows, immutable audit trail, cross‑border settlement and fiat/crypto bridging.
• Architect a highly concurrent, multi‑sided marketplace handling real‑time commission splits, multi‑currency flows and high‑volume transactions.
• Define and nurture engineering culture: code reviews, documentation, async‑first communication, English‑only code and docs.
• Collaborate with Risk & Compliance, Operations and banking partners on AML, KYC and regulatory controls.
• Represent engineering in investor due diligence and technical reviews.

Required profile

• 6‑10 years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• Advanced degree (Master’s, Engineer’s, or PhD) in Computer Science or related field.
• Proven ability to recruit, develop and scale high‑performing engineering teams.

Required skills

• Native iOS and Android development (Kotlin Multiplatform Mobile).
• NestJS and TypeScript.
• PostgreSQL.
• AWS cloud services.
• Modular monolith architecture.
• Design of double‑entry ledger and real‑time reconciliation systems.
• Experience with high‑throughput payment processing, multi‑currency and crypto bridging.
