Protection Assistant (Caseworker)

About the role

The Protection Assistant (Caseworker) will support the Protection and Migration (PXD) team in delivering assistance to victims of human trafficking and vulnerable migrants in Algiers. Working under the guidance of the Senior Caseworker, the role involves conducting interviews, assessing needs, and ensuring confidentiality while adhering to humanitarian standards.

Key responsibilities

• Support the PXD team in delivering assistance based on informed consent of beneficiaries.
• Assist the Senior Caseworker in conducting interviews with potential victims, vulnerable migrants, and crisis‑affected populations, ensuring child‑appropriate and gender‑sensitive approaches.
• Assess beneficiaries’ assistance needs and report them to the Protection Officer.
• Prepare regular case‑management reports for each beneficiary.
• Enter and maintain accurate data for assessed, identified, or assisted beneficiaries.
• Organize and deliver events on victim identification, referral, and protection topics.
• Liaise with stakeholders to establish referral pathways and mechanisms.
• Contribute to periodic and ad‑hoc project meetings.
• Ensure compliance with the Do No Harm framework and IOM data‑protection rules.
• Document and safeguard confidentiality of all personal information.
• Report on activities clearly and meet deadlines.

Required profile

• Ability to conduct interviews following international best practices, with sensitivity to gender and age.
• Strong analytical skills to assess assistance needs and produce case reports.
• Excellent written communication for reporting and documentation.
• Commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards.
• Capacity to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
• Flexibility to support event organization and team meetings.
