Senior Backend Engineer

About the role

Broco is building the financial infrastructure for francophone Africa and is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to own the backend layer that powers its consumer, driver and merchant applications. The role reports to the Head of Engineering and is based in Algiers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, scale and maintain robust backend services and APIs for Broco Consumer, Transporter and Agent apps.
• Collaborate with the Lead Payments Engineer to implement secure financial features, ledger operations and real‑time commission splits.
• Integrate complex third‑party services such as local banking APIs, SMS gateways and geolocation/routing providers.
• Write clean, maintainable and well‑tested code while participating in code reviews.
• Troubleshoot, debug and optimise database queries and overall system performance for low latency and high availability.
• Define API contracts with product and mobile teams to ensure seamless feature integration.

Required profile

• 5+ years of proven experience as a Backend Engineer or similar role in a fast‑paced tech company.
• Strong background in relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) with complex schema design and query optimisation.
• Experience building production‑grade backend systems used by real customers.
• Professional proficiency in English; French is a plus.
• Experience in mobility, on‑demand logistics or fintech is a strong advantage.
