Assistant Director of Engineering

About the role

The Assistant Director of Engineering supports the department head in overseeing the building’s engineering operations, budget, and capital projects. This full‑time position ensures the safety, security, and efficient functioning of all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems while enhancing guest and employee satisfaction through clear communication and training.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in managing engineering budgets, capital expenditures, and preventative‑maintenance programs.
• Supervise day‑to‑day engineering activities, including HVAC‑R, refrigeration, plumbing, water‑treatment, electrical, and life‑safety systems.
• Assign, track, and follow up on work orders for staff and external contractors.
• Act as technical liaison for all property departments and oversee engineering in the Director’s absence.
• Coordinate repairs, renovations, painting, and equipment purchases while maintaining inventory control.
• Conduct regular inspections to ensure regulatory compliance, proper permits, and adherence to departmental policies.
• Support energy‑conservation initiatives and evaluate new technologies for the facility.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED with 4 years of engineering/maintenance experience, **or** a 2‑year degree in Building & Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, etc., with 2 years of relevant experience.
• Technical training in HVAC‑R, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Proven ability to manage budgets, supervise staff, and communicate effectively.
