About the role

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN‑Habitat) is seeking a senior professional to lead its Strategic Planning and Monitoring Unit within the Corporate Management Division in Nairobi. The role is responsible for guiding the Programme’s strategic direction, results‑based planning and monitoring of urban development initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Head the Strategic Planning and Monitoring Unit, reporting to the Director of Corporate Management.
• Advise on and coordinate strategic and policy matters related to UN‑Habitat’s objectives, results‑based programmes, budgets and resource mobilisation.
• Oversee corporate monitoring and the monitoring of global agendas relevant to sustainable urban development.
• Lead the development of UN‑Habitat’s strategic plan, results framework and four‑year Work Programme.
• Identify strategic growth opportunities, emerging urbanisation issues and strategic challenges.
• Develop policy positions and solutions that support sustainable, inclusive, safe and resilient cities.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in strategic planning, policy coordination and programme monitoring, preferably in an international or UN context.
• Strong understanding of urban development, sustainability and resource mobilisation.
• Proven ability to lead a multidisciplinary team and work with senior management.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills.
