Drilling Fluids Advisor (28/28 Rotation)

About the role

AGR is recruiting, on behalf of an international client, a Drilling Fluids Advisor to work on a 28/28 rotation for a long-term period. The field-based advisor is the main technical and operational link between office management and field operations, supervising drilling fluids (WBM/OBM) and cementing services across several rig sites and the Liquid Mud Plant (LMP). The goal is cost-efficiency, technical integrity and strict compliance with environmental regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure fluid systems and cementing jobs follow the approved Well Program, keeping mud density in the drilling window and using additives within contractual concentrations.
• Solve downhole problems immediately: choose LCM pills or spotting fluids for lost circulation or stuck pipe to minimise NPT.
• Supervise primary and remedial cement jobs, checking slurry densities and ensuring bumped plug pressure for a good CBL.
• Audit solids control equipment (shakers, degassers, centrifuges) and optimise removal of generated particles and low gravity solids.
• Audit the contractor's Liquid Mud Plant, witnessing pilot tests and checking base oils and chemicals against technical specs.
• Maintain safety stock on site, track daily chemical consumption versus inventory and run monthly KPI reviews of mud and cementing contractors, including corrective action plans and training.
• Oversee disposal of drill cuttings and waste fluids, keeping oil on cuttings within legal limits for OBM operations.
• Lead pre-job safety meetings for high-pressure cementing, ensure correct PPE and that MSDS are available.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Chemistry.
• 10+ years in drilling fluids/cementing, with at least 3 years in a supervisory field role.
• Proven mentoring and coaching experience.
• Experience with Algerian lithology (salt sections, Hassi Messaoud Quartzite) or similar basins.
• Professional fluency in English; French is an advantage, Arabic a major asset.
