Nurse Practitioner – Thoracic Surgery

About the role

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will join the Heart Care – Heart and Lung Surgery team at HonorHealth, providing advanced, autonomous care to patients undergoing thoracic surgery. This role blends clinical expertise with leadership, education, and research responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive history and physical examinations for thoracic surgery patients.
• Order, interpret, and act upon diagnostic studies.
• Prescribe medications and develop treatment plans within Arizona Board of Nursing scope.
• Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless transitions of care, including discharge planning.
• Mentor and coach nursing staff, fostering clinical skill development and critical thinking.
• Lead educational initiatives, serve as a resource for staff, and support evidence‑based practice.
• Participate in research, quality improvement, and process improvement projects.

Required profile

• Current, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in Arizona.
• Experience in acute and chronic care, preferably within thoracic or cardiothoracic surgery.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently with high motivation.
• Strong leadership, mentorship, and educational skills.
• Commitment to evidence‑based practice and continuous quality improvement.
