Temporary Works Coordinator

About the role

The Temporary Works Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the Temporary Works Register and ensuring that all temporary structures on site are designed, installed, inspected and removed safely. This role acts as the central point of contact between site management, contractors and design engineers, guaranteeing compliance with engineering standards and health‑safety regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the Temporary Works Register and track each temporary work from conception to removal.
• Commission, review and approve temporary‑works designs by qualified designers.
• Ensure erection of temporary works follows design specifications and that all required documentation is available on site.
• Serve as the primary liaison between site management, contractors and design engineers.
• Review and approve risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) for temporary works.
• Conduct or delegate regular inspections to verify ongoing safety of temporary structures.
• Manage the “permit to load” or “permit to use” process, ensuring structures are not used until verified safe.

Required profile

• 3‑10 years of experience in construction, civil engineering or project management with a focus on site safety.
• Relevant certification such as CITB Temporary Works Coordinator training or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of local health‑and‑safety legislation, e.g., CDM Regulations.

• Understanding of structural engineering principles and standards for temporary works.
• Familiarity with temporary‑works design standards and documentation.
• Knowledge of health‑and‑safety regulations governing temporary structures.
