Senior Backend Engineer

About the role

Broco is building the financial infrastructure for francophone Africa, connecting cash flows across supply chains, merchants, and delivery drivers. As a Senior Backend Engineer you will own the backend layer that powers the consumer, driver, and merchant applications, ensuring reliability, security, and scalability.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain robust backend services and APIs for Broco’s three core applications.
• Collaborate with the Lead Payments Engineer to implement secure financial features, ledger operations, and real‑time commission splits.
• Integrate third‑party services such as local banking APIs, SMS gateways, and geolocation/routing providers.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well‑tested code while participating in code reviews.
• Debug, troubleshoot, and optimise database queries and overall system performance for low latency and high availability.
• Define API contracts with product and mobile teams to ensure seamless feature integration.

Required profile

• 5+ years of proven experience as a Backend Engineer in a fast‑paced tech environment.
• Strong hands‑on experience with relational databases, especially PostgreSQL, and complex query optimisation.
• Solid track record building production‑grade backend systems used by real customers.
• Professional proficiency in English; French is a plus.
• Experience in mobility, on‑demand logistics, or fintech is a strong advantage.
