Assistant Director of Engineering

About the role

The Assistant Director of Engineering supports the Director in overseeing the hotel’s engineering department, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost‑effective operation of all building systems. This full‑time position is based at the Algiers Marriott Hotel and focuses on maintaining high standards of safety, security, and guest satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in managing the engineering budget, capital expenditures, and preventative‑maintenance programs.
• Supervise daily operations of engineering staff and contractors, including work‑order distribution and follow‑up.
• Oversee the physical plant: HVAC‑R, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, water‑treatment, life‑safety, and related equipment.
• Conduct inspections of facilities, grounds, meeting rooms, ballrooms, restaurants, and recreational areas.
• Act as technical liaison for all hotel departments and step in as acting Director when needed.
• Recommend and coordinate additional services such as painting, repairs, renovations, and equipment purchases.
• Maintain inventories of parts, supplies, and equipment to minimize downtime.
• Support energy‑conservation initiatives and ensure regulatory compliance.

Required profile

• High school diploma/GED with 4 years of engineering or maintenance experience, **or** an associate degree in Building & Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or related field with 2 years of experience.
• Technical training in HVAC‑R, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Strong organizational and communication skills to interact with staff, contractors, and hotel departments.
